Natural law is inscribed on the hearts of all people regardless of culture or civilization. The natural law “is nothing other than the light of understanding placed in us by GOD, through it we know what we must do and what we must avoid.”
When legislators are cut off from God our legal systems is more often likely to suppress rather then safeguard the citizen it serves. Those legislators have the ability to affirm the rights of God and man and by doings so; God and man are either affirmed together or fall together. Laws crafted apart from God become tyrannical, therefore, the Rockland County Catholic Coalition asks its Legislators don’t separate your reason from GOD.
Those in political office must not forget that they are the unfettered master of the citizenry’s destiny, however, these same politicians must remember that “absolute power, corrupts absolutely.” Your electorate is not problems to be managed, if this is the case people will suffer wholesale injustices at the hands of their government.
Many today have the audacity to assert that certain immoral behaviors are somehow considered hallowed. Today the language of civil rights is systematically co-opted and misapplied by everyone who wants to make his personal desires a right. They believe that apart from God, they embrace the ultimate vanity believing somehow that we are enlightened and clever. But Jesus said in John 15:5 “apart from me you can do nothing!”
Legislatures you are the gatekeepers of the fundamental rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Politicians need crediable role models able to indicate the path of truth. This is a time in history when difficult challenges and crucial responsibilities are increasing. St. Thomas More’s life speaks to people everywhere of the inalienable dignity of the human conscious; his life teaches us that the role of politicians in government is above all an exercise of the virtue of courage.
Just as a century ago it was the working class who were oppressed in their fundamental rights. The Church very courageously came to their defense by proclaiming the sacrosanct rights of the worker as a person, so now, when another category of persons is being oppressed in the fundamental right to life, the Church feels duty bound to speak out with the same courage on behalf of those who have no voice.
In the name of God: respect, protect, love and serve life, and the dignity of traditional marriage! Only in this direction will you find justice, development, true freedom, peace and happiness.
